There was nothing in the world that could have prepared me for her passing. Death is a brutal process to witness especially when it’s someone close to you, and her decline and ultimate death was not poetic. After over a 5 year battle with colon cancer, my great “Auntie” (and grandmother figure) Dianne Woods Banks passed away in July 2019. Dianne is a series of art that memorializes my Auntie while allowing me to confront my own grief with compassion and the will to heal.
